Last Friday night my friend Jenna and I hosted a mom’s night out in Jenna’s home with some delicious whole food hors d’ oeuvres that I wanted to share with you.  Jenna and I have been busy planning our series of healthy cooking classes that we will be launching this fall, but more about that later in an upcoming post.

We wanted to get some feedback from some of the moms in our community that we will be serving, so we thought a mom’s night out filled with wholesome goodies would be the perfect setting.  The menu was centered around whole foods of course but also with easy to find ingredients in mind as well as recipes that would be simple to replicate.

Jenna had a deliciously refreshing pitcher of citrus infused water readily available which was well received on our hot Florida night.  It’s a great alternative to plain water and really adds a nice touch to the table.  Simply add a few slices of lemon and lime or even oranges to a pitcher of ice water and let sit for at least 30 minutes.  Cucumber slices also work well if you are not a fan of citrus.

As for the menu, here are a few of the hors d’ oeuvres that we served.  They were light and refreshing and perfect for a summer get together.  The quinoa and avocado salad is a nutritional powerhouse loaded with protein, healthy fats and an array of micronutrients.  It makes a great side dish to take along or can be eaten at home as a meal on it’s own.
